Quantifiers (量词)in Chinese are used between a noun and an article (before a noun and after an article),and specific quantifiers should be used before a specific noun, thus making Chinese more colourful and vivid. This is not the case of English. In English, people just use an article before a countable noun, and seldom use quantifiers .But before an uncountable noun, they often use such words as "piece, item, glass, bowl, group" to show how much of something, which is somewhat similar to quantifiers but less complicated.
When we talk about the numbers of ,for example, animals in Chinese, we should pay special attention to the choice of quantifiers. We should say "一匹马yipima" meaning "a horse" instead of "一头马yitouma". Also we should say "一头牛yitouniu" meaning "a cow".
Now let’s remember some set phrases of quantifiers and nouns.一只羊---a sheep, 一辆车---a car, 一架飞机---a plane, 一列火车---a train,一本书---a book,一支钢笔--- a pen,一块橡皮--- an eraser.
